CCRN certification FAQ
What is CCRN certification?

What are the CCRN Adult Direct Care hour requirements?
AACN provides two initial eligibility options. The two-year option requires 1,750 eligible direct-care hours in the previous two years, including 875 in the most recent year. The five-year option requires 2,000 eligible hours in the previous five years, including 144 in the most recent year.
How much does the CCRN exam cost?
AACN's live CCRN page and April 2026 exam policy document showed different initial-exam amounts during the August 17 review. Verify the current member and nonmember fee on AACN immediately before applying; this page does not reproduce the disputed amounts.
Does CCRN certification guarantee higher pay?
No. AACN does not publish a guaranteed national CCRN pay premium. Some employers offer a certification differential, bonus, or clinical-ladder benefit and others do not. The calculator on this page uses only values you supply from your employer.
How often is CCRN renewed?
CCRN certification is granted for three years. Active renewal generally requires continued eligibility plus either the Synergy CERP requirements or renewal by exam. Adult Direct Care renewal by CERPs requires 100 total CERPs with category minimums.
