California CRNA wages vs the national median
California’s May 2025 median for nurse anesthetists ($292,410) sits 23.6% above the national median ($236,590). California’s statewide median sits well above the national figure. Metro detail is limited in this OEWS release: several Bay Area rows are top-coded at $239,200+, so the table only includes areas with full percentile dollars (Los Angeles, Riverside, and the North Coast nonmetro area).

CRNA jobs and hiring in California
California OEWS puts the statewide CRNA median well above the national figure, but several large Bay Area metros only publish top-coded ceilings ($239,200+) rather than full percentile bands. Use the statewide calculator plus the few areas with complete dollar ranges (Los Angeles, Riverside, North Coast nonmetro).
Separate base pay from call and check W-2 vs 1099 on advertised packages. California cost of living can offset a higher nominal offer compared with lower-wage states. Confirm privileges and care-team model on the posting.
- Ask whether an advertised package is base-only, call-heavy, or 1099 before comparing it to OEWS percentiles.
- Confirm privileges, supervision or care-team model, and malpractice terms with the employer; those are offer-specific.

Common questions
California CRNA salary FAQ
How much do CRNAs make in California?
The California median annual wage for nurse anesthetists was $292,410 in May 2025, according to BLS OEWS data. That is about 24% above the national median of $236,590. The California 10th to 90th range ran from $200,530 to $335,550.
Why are Bay Area CRNA wages missing from the metro table?
In the May 2025 OEWS release, San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont, Santa Rosa-Petaluma, and Vallejo publish only top-coded values ($239,200+ / $115.00+ hourly) rather than full 10th to 90th dollar bands. Those rows are left out of the metro table. Use the statewide calculator and compare offers in writing.
How is my California CRNA salary percentile estimated?
The calculator annualizes the base pay you enter, then interpolates between California’s BLS 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, and 90th percentile thresholds for Nurse Anesthetists (SOC 29-1151). Values outside that published range are labeled only as below the 10th or above the 90th threshold.
Does this include call pay or 1099 packages?
No. Enter base pay only. Call pay, overtime, stipends, and 1099 package totals are excluded. Advertised totals are not the same as OEWS base wages.
What should I check when applying for a California CRNA job?
Check the region against the metro table, ask whether pay is W-2 or 1099, clarify call and practice model, and verify privileges and malpractice terms in writing. For how to read listing labels, see the nurse anesthetist jobs guide.
